2007 Texas State Fair, ZeitCast 21

We consumed Fried Peanut Butter, Jelly and Banana sandwiches, BBQ Beef Frito Pies, Fried Guacomole bites, Banana's Foster and Fried Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Luckily we only rode a few rides and all were pretty tame except for the last one which caused Brian to scream like a little girl and yelling at the Carney to stop the ride.

Our feet are killing us, our bellies are upset and we're exhausted. A great way to end the weekend before starting my new job tomorrow. I'll be doing everything possible tomorrow morning before heading out, to not throw up.

Here's a clip of us on the Crazy Mouse. This has become our Texas State Fair Tradition, three years in a row so far.

Just reading about this food will cause a heart attack

Nothing like a week with family to make you want to come home to Dallas. I'm kidding. I love my family, I really do. I've just become such a homebody, that I miss my own place after a few days. I had a great time just relaxing on the farm, eating good home cooked meals and spending time visiting. Max spent most of his time whining and pacing back and forth, wanting to be outside playing with the pony and all the cows. I think he thought that they were nothing but big over grown cats or something. I know if he ever was to get off of his leash, I'd never see him again. With 10 cats on the farm, he would be running and chasing pussy for days.

Don't anyone be jealous, but at 11am this morning, we're heading to an RV Show to look at all the pretty, overly priced trailers, wishing we could afford one. Our trailer is nice, but it's as old as Methuselah. It's days are numbered. But is was free so I can't complain. It just would be nice to have one of those fancy new ones.

Tomorrow we might head to the State Fair for an afternoon of All That Is Fried. Check out this list of last years and new items being sold at the Fair. Only in Texas.

Going home

What a great birthday weekend. We went shopping and picked up a new piece of glass for our collection. Received a lot of great cologne. I'm such a cologne whore. Bought a new Kenny C outfit. Had dinner with my hubby and a handful of wonderful friends and then ended the evening with drinks, dancing and a drag show. The older I get, I know the dancing and drinking might have to stop.

I'm heading home tomorrow morning for Nebraska to spend the week with family. I'll be returning on Friday to spend the weekend with Brian before I start my new job on October 1st. It's kind of funny. After being so upset not having a job, I'm now kind of depressed to go back to work. I'm so fucked up. I think I'm just nervous about making a good impression and living up to expectations. Hard to believe it's been a whole three months of lounging around the house.

I'm looking forward to mama's home cooking, cool autumn weather and seeing the family before heading back to the rat race.

Hopefully I'll get the chance to post a few times while away and I'm crossing my fingers that I get the chance to blow glass at my old college if the timing is right.

Today's the day

babyme.jpg
(I'm SO old that this photo was done in black and white and was then hand painted. Seriously. Who would ever wear blue velvet at the age of 6 months?)

Really, no. NO! Stop! Please, no more!! Take all the gifts back you purchased for my birthday which is today just in case you've been out of the country for the past few months and haven't watched the news.

If you've already dropped them in the mail, then I'll graciously accept them. If you haven't mailed it off yet, please donate to the AIDS Walk instead. I'm only $550 from my goal of $2000! The link is on the left for those who may have missed it or have shitty eyesight. See? I can find ANY excuse to mention the AIDS Walk.

I will though, accept anything Kenneth Cole. That's an exceptioin. The AIDS Walk people will just have to understand addictions. Oh, and if there has been any sort of National Mark Day started or a Parade for me in my honor in the works, who am I to stop it?

Who am I to turn away adoring fans? Even if there are only five of them.

Insurance troubles

We have been dealing with something a bit irritating the past few weeks. Insurance. Brian's company offers partner benefits. There's never been an issue with them, nor the insurance company they have. Both Brian's company and the major insurance carrier, show me as a domestic partner and that I'm eligible. The problem is with the prescription drug company. They have been showing me as ineligible for the past two weeks.

We have been calling back and forth from his company to Insurance company to prescription company to verify things. The new prescription company requires mail-in orders for any maintenance drugs. I don't have a choice in the matter. The great thing is mail-in saves me almost 700 dollars during that 3 month period.

After dealing with all three companies, we found out through research that this prescription company's computer system doesn't recognize domestic partners. Only spouse and dependents. So when a claim is ran through, I get denied for medications. Needless to say, I'm a bit frazzled making sure that I don't do without my meds for even one day. I'm glad I started this process a month before my next batch is due. We informed the prescription company that Brian's company and insurance company are correct and that with 54,000 employees, there's quite a few people that have to deal with proving their eligibility every three months when they need refills on their medications.

They're in the process of resubmitting everything. Brian's company has to list me as a spouse or dependent to get it to work. The prescription company has been great to work with actually. I told them that I considered this to be a form of discrimination against domestic partnerships and I filed a formal complaint, asking that their system be updated to handle domestic partners, since I will never fall under the catagory of spouse and never, ever will be his dependent.

This prescription company is owned by the infamous CVS Pharmacy chain. They are the ones I was asked to come back to 3 times after they screwed up almost every prescription order each month. I went back to them three times and left three times. The reason? Faulty computer programming.

Not accepting domestic partners really doesn't surprise me.

The best gift

After months of searching and countless interviews, I'm finally done. Even though over a week ago, they told me they "wanted me", I hadn't heard anything back. Yesterday I got the call with the official offer and salary, which was exactly what I was asking.

I'm not sure why I was so emotional during the whole experience. I know many people who've been laid off and took things in stride. Nothing seemed to bother them. Maybe they had thousands stashes away under their mattresses or something. They always had the attitude that something will come along.

I guess I was more stressed since this had never happened to me. I've had a job since I was 15 years old. I've never been without one. Since I became positive over 15 years ago, I've always had that steady job with insurance and income coming in. I had no worries.

Luckily, I made the decision to go on Brian's insurance. Every company he's worked for recently has offered partner benefits. Going on his insurance at the time was the smartest thing I had done. It saved me from trying to pay for COBRA. Anyone who knows anything about Texas Unemployment, they don't give you shit. One two week paycheck would have been taken to pay for one month of COBRA.

During the last 5 years, I've finally gotten into a good place financially. Paying bills on time, building good credit, paying off old debts. I was able to live comfortably and live smart. I know I screwed things up in the past during college and grad school. The years after grad school were some of my worse. Seeing all that hard work possibly be destroyed drove me nuts.

I think the combination of all those things made it difficult for me during the layoff. I know depression and panic attacks run in my family. I just had never really experienced much of anything personally up until now. I didn't like relying on a medication to keep me from being a bowl of blubbering bawling mess, but I had to. I was having a panic attack on a daily basis. Sometimes more then once.

I know I have to apologize to my husbear and my close friends. I'm so sorry guys. I know I was grouchy, touchy, irritating and short tempered. When I wasn't yelling or screaming, I was crying. I was a joy to be around that's for sure. I don't know how they put up with me. Even this blog suffered. I never wanted to write in it. I thought about shutting it down. I know, drama queen. We make irrational decisions when we're depressed or upset.

People say they can hear a change in my voice or even see it when they chat with me online. I hope so. I feel so much better. I can finally breathe. Even more now that it's 100% official.

And all of this comes at such a perfect time. My birthday is this coming Friday and I'm finally ready to celebrate.

Happy (vomit) Pride!!!

CIMG2919.JPG
Steven, myself and Brian, pre-drunk.

Someone needs to explain to me how attending Pride Events, mean all must get shitfaced drunk and act slutty. We ALL drank to the point of stumbling home.

In a nutshell: We each showed our penis to someone at some point during the afternoon. Some more then once. Someone I won't mention, asked for a fluffer because he wasn't ready for his appearance. A few made out with cute boys in the bar. I referred to our bartender as our slave most of the night. Didn't help that he had a dog collar and leash around his neck. We consumed way too many shots of tequila. We ran into friends we hadn't seen in a while such as Scotty and Rebecca. I think we talked about her bodacious tata's too much from what I can remember. We befriended a cute hairy 24 year old named Sam who's friends didn't show up. I don't think Sam paid for a drink the entire time courtesy of my hubby. I danced with two hot, muscled leather daddy's. One of them is my nurse from the doctors office I've gone to for the past 15 years. Brian took tons of photo's and after a while of flipping through them, I realized why I didn't recognize most of them. He was taking pictures of hot random guys. We were wearing matching Savvy Vodka t-shirts to help promote it and some how it became a game to have people write something on them. Before the night was over with, about 6 of us were covered in ink.

I don't remember the last hour of being in the bar or the long walk home.

That was our pride. We were quite proud. Especially of our penises.

Gay Pride Weekend

Busy weekend ahead.

Tonight we're heading out as a group to see The Kinsey Sicks. They're absolutely hilarious from what we hear. We've only listened to some of their stuff on cd's.

Tomorrow is Gay Day at 6 Flags. We're all about hanging out with some homo's and scream like little girls on roller coasters.

Sunday is our Gay Pride Parade, known as the Alan Ross Freedom Parade. Don't ask, it's a long story explaining it and I'm not in the mood to search and add links.

Pride weekends in Dallas are always full of so many events that last for a couple weeks. There are times when I wish we celebrated it during the same time as the rest of the country, but it is nice to have it in September so we can enjoy going to other cities celebratons.

Happy Gay Pride!

We've changed

noname.jpg

It hasn't happened for years down in our gayborhood, but yesterday while driving through on my way to Walgreen's Pharmacy, I saw the nutty religious protestors, disguising themselves as people who care and trying to spread the message of God's love. They stand there with a huge cross that they drag back and forth, while raising the Word of God, telling everyone to repent, while the other two were holding up signs saying "Trust and obey Jesus and LIVE!" The other sign had something to do with repenting or going to hell.

Lovely. Just, lovely.

I've seen and dealt with these kind of God Warrior's before. Fred Phelps and his nutty clan while going to school down in Lawrence Kansas and right here on OUR streetcorner, in OUR neighborhood in front of OUR bars, shops and restaurants.

Being able to ramble off scripture with the best of them back in the day (my memory is shit anymore) I was able to approach these people and with a calm and caring attitude, let them know about the love of God that I was taught growing up. I told them about the Jesus that I was told about in Sunday School who was caring, loving, peaceful and gentle. I reminded them that the God they are referring to, I've never heard of nor never wanted to get to know on a personal level.

I threw scripture back at them as fast as they could spout it off to me. I reminded them of how they were taking one line or one verse out of context and manipulating it for their own purposes. I reminded them of how Christ told us to pray for one another and not to judge one another because that was HIS responsibility and not ours.

Some people might think this is a waste of time witih people like this. I don't. If you can say or do one thing that might light a spark in someones mind, it's worth it. If you can cause another human being to stop the hate filled speach that spews out of their mouth, it's worth it. If you can cause a whole group of angry so called Christians to leave the street corner of the neighborhood that THEY invaded, it's worth it.

I wasn't mad at the Christian's on the street corner. Getting angry and upset at them is what they want. Getting angry and upset is doing just what they are doing and I don't want to stoop to their level. Being angry is a wasted emotion. What I was mad about, were all the homosexuals who were sitting at the coffee shop, the bars and the restaurants surrounding them. I was pissed off at the gay people walking past them on the street and not saying one single word to them in our defense. Everyone kept their head down, eating their food or drinking their coffee, turning their heads occasionally to glance at them.

No one spoke up for us. No one said a thing. They just sat there and let these three women come in and invade our neighborhood, our safeplace and allowed them to yell and scream at the top of their lungs that we were hated and going to hell.

They just sat there. Their dinner and drinks were more important. Back in the day, they would have been surrounded by us telling them our beliefs and even though they have the right to say what they want about us, we too have the right to talk back and defend ourselves. Our community has become complacent witih so many things. Everything from protesting, marching, rallying togther or raising money for AIDS prevention and research has taken a backseat. It's not as important anymore like it was.

We wait for someone else to do it, rather then just doing it ourselves. I can blame myself in this as well. I migiht raise money for AIDS causes every year, but I don't volunteer. I don't protest, march or write my senator like I should. Does any of us?

I parked my car when I saw those women and was so angry I wanted to say something to them. As I tried to calm down, I walked to towards them at the same time they were approached by 3 police officers so I had to back off. The police stood there and talked to them for quite a while so I finally went home.

Maybe I just miss the days where I felt like we had more purpose, something to stand up for and were more active in our community.

We've changed.

Doesn't take much to scare me

It's probably not such a good idea to go see the new movie Halloween by Rob Zombie late at night, then go home to a dark house and have to take your dog out for a walk in a very dimly lit street so he can go the bathroom. That was the fastest walk and pee Max has ever done. Of course, I had to go through most of the house and turn on all the lights just to make sure everything was ok.

I'm such a girl.

For those who are a fan of horror flicks, go see it. His combination prequel + re-telling was really good.

The movie has gotten me started thinking about the upcoming holiday and what we're all going to wear at The Ranch for the big party. We also thought of a great idea of something to do at The Ranch, but we want to run it by the owner first. If done right, we should be able to make a lot of grown men piss their pants.

I know it's probably a bit early to talk about Halloween, but at least I'm not like some of the local stores whicih have all their Christmas decorations out already. Before you know it, they'll be decorating their stores in May.

Jingle bells, jingle bells......

Finally.....

We're back from the land of tree hugging hippies, lesbians who drive subaru's and the place where every straight man looks just like a hunky gay bear. Talk about lots of eyecandy. Portland is definately the polar opposite of all that is Dallas. What a difference between two cities. I love Portland. It reminds me of where I went to Grad School in Lawrence Kansas and also of Austin Texas. The whole city moves at a much slower pace. Maybe it's all the pot smoke in the air.

Since I was still recovering from kidney stones, I was pretty slow moving and needed lots of sleep and rest. Rather then hopping in the car and driving around the city while Brian worked, I pretty much stayed in our hotel room and relaxed, sleeping off and on. It's a good thing I did. Once Brian got off work we were on the go. We hung out with his brother and his partner every night, eating dinner then enjoying a cocktail at some local gay bar. On Friday night we all went to the Justin Timberlake concert. His brother is a huge fan. We're not big fans ourselves, but I have to say that it was an amazing concert. That boy knows how to put on an incredible show. It helps that he's cute as hell and we were on the 8th row from the stage.

It was great seeing Brian and finally meeting his brother, whom he talks about all the time. This is the first time they've ever been able to spend a lot of time together. By the time Sunday rolled around though, I was ready for my own home and bed. No matter where I go for a vacation, there's no place like home.

I had my 3rd interview with a company I've been talking to a lot lately. It went well. The manager and I seemed to really hit it off well. Since she knows a lot about my previous company and all that I had to deal with on a daily basis. Basically, she said that I'm hired and now it's all about figuring out salary and a start date. From the looks of things, I'll be starting in two weeks if everything works out like it should.

I can finally breathe.

Larry Craig's coming out!

Once in a while my husbear makes something or puts something together that just makes me laugh and I have to share. Part of the show we help with over Labor Day, includes various clips, sketches or any sort of comedy to use inbetween acts.

Brian actually made/edited the following clip himself and we used it in the opening of the show:

Labor Day wrap up

smallergroup.JPG

It was an interesting weekend to say the least.

We all arrived at The Ranch around 3pm on Friday afternoon. We spent most of the afternoon hanging out and drinking the occasional cocktail. By 8pm, we headed down for the Beer Bust that a few of us sponsored to raise money for the AIDS Walk. The only thing we got out of it was drunk. A lot of money spent on two kegs and we only made $100 for The Walk. I guess the only way to make money for a good cause there is to have a raffle or a pancake feed like what was done before. No one wanted to donate money for beer. We learned our lesson and won't be attempting that again. What a waste of money. We could have just donated our cash straight to the website.

Brian and Steven passed out pretty early in the evening. By 11pm, Brad and I headed back ourselves. Around 4am, I woke up with a severe side and back ache. I kept getting up and down, trying to walk it off. Before you know it, I'm getting sick to my stomach and throwing up. That's when I knew something was wrong. Kidney Stones. I've had them before and know all the symptoms. I kept thinking that the pain would go away. It didn't. After dealing with this for an hour and somehow not waking anyone up with my moaning, the pain hit me bad and I was screaming by this point. I scared the shit out of Brian and he knew exactly what was wrong as well. We went through this two years ago.

We spent the next 4 hours in a small local hospital. Lots of fluids and some shitty painkillers later, they finally sent me home. No morphine like when I had this issue in Dallas. Instead they gave me suped up Ibuprofin and Lortab. At least I was able to pass a small stone while still in the emergency room which decreased the pressure and pain.

I spent the rest of the weekend exhausted and extremely tender. Not being able to drink, lay in the sun or do any sort of physical activity. Luckily, Steven and Brad weren't in the mood to do much of anything except lounge around like I had to do, sipping on bottles of water.

Sunday night we all were in better shape and headed down to the stage to help Mama and Twyla with their show, which ended up being a huge success. One of their best. I took video's and Steven took photo's. Hopefully I'll be able to provide you all with a link to the video's and some photo's before I head out to Portland on Wednesday afternoon.

So when people ask me what I did this weekend, I'll just tell them I peed kitty litter.
